This drill is great for a fun, competitive addition to warm-ups, and helps the players focus on where their throws are going.
Relay-Relay--- Take 3 or 4 players per team with 1 from each team at home, a 2nd player somewhere around base line area put the 3rd & 4th in the outfield equally spaced to the fence. Each team starts with the ball at home, throwing to player 2 to 3 to 4 and back to 3 to 2 to home.Use your catchers at the plate, your infielders at the bases, and outfielders in the outfield. See which team can get the ball there and back first, making sure everybody rotates to their glove side on the relay. If they rotate wrong or make an error they must go back to the last clean catch. They learn to rotate correctly on the relay, get the ball out quickly, throw accurately, while learning teamwork and competition. It's very quick and effective. When the players ask to do it again and again you know they're having fun.
TOTAL TEAM SPRINT--- Have the entire team line up behind homeplate On command, the first player sprints to first and as soon as he touches the base, give the command for the next player to go. Time how long it takes from the first to the last player to reach first. I think this will be good for conditioning and speed, but what I like the most is it's a team event and the team as a whole can see their improvement as the season goes on. I see the players really rooting for each other and that would be great.
